Buffalo, MN (located 40 miles north of Minneapolis) is the latest city to join the likes of Las Vegas, NV, Cocoa Beach, FL, Garland, TX and Medford, OR in deploying a mesh-based metro area network. The new network will offer high-speed access to police and other city employees. The city is using Mesh Networks technology. Mesh Networks was acquired by Motorola late last year.
The city of Buffalo, MN has done a great job of utilizing technology and communications, this included. The city has offered both residents and business owners affordable wireless high speed internet (wave rider network) for years as they took the initiative to install their own network at a time when broadband providers were balking. As a resident, I truly appreciate the forward thinking of this small community of 13,000 residents … but growing thanks to moves like these.
