Last week in my Business 2.0 column, I wrote about how software was going to be a key differentiator for premium brand handset makers like Nokia and Motorola. Early examples, Lifeblog and Avvenu. More proof of this today, as Nokia and Yahoo announce a partnership. Nokia’s Series 60 phones will have Yahoo Search for Mobile, Games and other features bundled as standard features. This is a big distribution deal for Yahoo. In the first quarter 2005, Nokia shipped 5.4 million smartphones, accounting for a 50 percent share of the global smartphone market, according to data from research firm Canalys. In addition, Nokia announced that now LiveJournal users can LifeBlog as well.
