For some odd reason, the whole weekend is full of pessimistic news.
- Think of it as legal phishing. Overstock.com is using “Shop with Amaz-on” tag on Google adsense to attract customers.
- Loudeye, a Seattle-based digital music company is cutting workforce and shutting down anti-piracy division, Overpeer. (via)
- Digeo, a set top box maker backed by Paul Allen is restructuring, and some managers were let go. The company plans to announce future strategy.
- Nicholas Carr is scratching his head, confused by the ever-changing strategy of Sun Microsystems. It reminds me of Digital Equipment before it got taken out by Compaq, which got taken out by…HP
I’d think what Overstock is doing is not legal at all . . . As for Sun, good ideas but not the willingness to risk seeing them through. They are a perfect example of how being a public company is not good for long-term innovation.
