Google Calendar now with event-tracking
Google Calendar is adding event-tracking capability that allows Calendar users to add public events to your calendar. Add the NBA Playoff schedule to the calendar or pick events from the Eventful database. Google’s new calendar gallery has listings from sources like Disney, Eventful, JamBase, Orbitz, the NBA, and Zvents. You can add either individual events or complete schedules to your Google Calendar in one click. I have added the New York Yankees to my calendar so that I can keep a close watch on who we are losing to on any given day. These public calendars have been available to Mac users for quite sometime now. Also see, Lifehacker

makes a lot of things simpler to be honest. i wish more calendars come online. especially the small and iconic ones.
Om, I’ve been wondering for a while, did you grow up in New York? If not, how did you become a Yankees fan? It’s refreshing to get a little bit of Yankees support while going through my tech feeds every day, even if it is sort of masochistic support these days.

I lived in NY for a long time, learnt baseball the “television” way and fell in love with the game and the yankees. and that is when they were bad – like bad like now. Saw the dynasty form, and then whither away. unfortunately, all the haters are having their just desserts. but we shall overcome as they say.
Well this sounds pretty good, but i must admit after using Outlook alot i find it very hard to use google calendar, although this is a really good feature!

Well, as Om has said this is a feature that has been available to Mac users for a long time. In fact, I believe this feature has been available within gcal for a long time.
Unfortunately, this is hardly a repository of “public” calendars because they can only be added to Google Calendar which seems contrary to “making the world’s information universally available.”
Seems like a no brainer to offer this info in ics, rss, and hcal but Google has chosen not to.
We plan to open up something similar from events.30boxes.com and it will be open to all front end calendars.
Yankee fan? There’s only one team in NY and they play in Queens.
After downloading the .CSV file from http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/schedule/downloadable.jsp?c_id=nyy I attempted to import it into my gcal, by following their instructions, to no avail. It repeatedly says ‘Calendar Not Available, try later.’ WTF? How did you do it?
And yes, there is a team that plays in Queens, what was their name again? The Choke-Meisters?
