Business 2.0’s Matt Maier reports on the recent deal between Helio and social networking site, MySpace. Sky Dayton’s new MVNO is developing a special app which would allow MySpace users to interact with their website (and community) right off the mobile phone. The company also announced some new handsets as well. Earthling blog has more details on Helio and some snazzy photos as well.
Friendster launched a service like this, but only in the Philippines. It did reasonably well, but it was only an SMS service, not WAP. One of the big allures to social networking sites is the photos, so hopefully the client they’re talking about won’t just be SMS.
Because there is a client at all, it’s unlikely to be either SMS or WAP. It’s likely to be something heavier, buggier, etc. It’ll likely have the 20% login failure rate of the big mobile IM clients (yahoo, AIM, etc.).
