Push to talk battle might be heating up stateside, but Nextel trying to stay on the cutting edge is going international. The company is working with Qualcomm on a new international push-to-talk solution that works with CDMA2000 networks, called ‘QChat’. Also involved in this collaboration are Lucent and Kyocera. Nextel and QCOM are working to make Direct Connect and QChat interoperable on an international basis. Nextel wants to expand Direct Connect internationally and will soon roll-out PTT service in Canada through Telus and in Latin America via NII Holdings.
