Slow 3G Rollout in China?

  1. Not sure why you consider this news.

The deal wrt to 3G and China is all about the global coming out party scheduled for the 2008 Bejing Olympics, for which the chinesse have already built all the venues. (take that you slack-daddy europeans)

At this party, China wants to showcase its own homegrown wireless standard known as TD-SCDMA. Thus the government keeps pushing back the official awarding of ‘3G’ licenses to buy more time to develop this ill-fated standard.

Meanwhile part of Qualcomm’s full court press is to force the chinesse to adopt either CDMA2000 or W-CDMA (it doesn’t matter to QCOM because they get PAID either way), by accelerating the adoption timeframes in Japan, Korea, and especially India.

Should be interesting to watch this unfold.
