2007 is turning out to be a nice year for technology initial public offerings, especially for companies that are involved with communications gear, services and chips. Deutsche Bank analyst Ted Tobiason crunched some numbers and came up with some pretty interesting findings:
* The deal volume is on the up, and there are six companies out raising money.
* Of the 23 IPOs (year-to-date), 19 are above issue price.
* Four deals done in June 2007 (including Infinera) are up average of 28%.
* The average deal size has been $150mm and the median $100mm.
* 12 companies that went public were coming off an unprofitable year.
* The average market cap at IPO was $722 million nd the median $521 million.
* 10 of the 23 deals are communications related, including two of the semiconductor deals.
Ted in his note points out that the investors are hungry for anything that has current buzzwords: bandwidth, video, HD video, gaming, music, and hosted applications/software. Some of the notables doing well: Riverbed and Infinera. Isilion Systems.
Huh?
Isilon is down 48% this year.
Ooops. Sorry about that. I wanted to write Infinera. ah late night blogging!
Do you have a list of the names of the 23 tech IPOs this year? Thanks!
