T-Mobile’s Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) based T-Mobile At Home service is getting some attention today. Andy Abramson was the first with the news that T-Mobile was working on something like this back in April 2006. Katie then went ahead and dug up the information that the service would launch on September 12th in Seattle and other cities would follow. Someone who has actually used the service gives TMAH mad props in our comments section. The comments, all of them are worth reading and a lively debate is in progress.
CEO Dotson made first mention and let it slip in Jan 2006 at an investors’ conference in London.
Sunil, thanks for the pointer. trying to dig up that transcript so can link accordingly. appreciate the heads up.
For several years operators have been working on WiFi/3G roaming. It is exciting that T-Mobile is commercializing it in US. Cheers! -pradyumna sant
UMA seems to have reached the tipping point. Beside T-Mobile which is getting lot of attention maybe due to its late launch, it is in France that it is really happening with all 3 Mobile service provider going for it. Neuf started it all in June, Cegetel & Orange are rolling out in September. Given france advanced profile when it comes to broadband, it gives an interesting view towards the future of convergence.
