When it comes to GSM/GPRS there is no one like Texas Instruments which introduced a new single chip that handles the GSM, GPRS, and Bluetooth connectivity in a tiny package. TI calls this approach Digital RF Processor (DRP) technology. Why is this important? Well now even the low-end phones, the kind which Nokia is selling by the boatload in emerging wireless economies, will get higher features for cheap. It also means, less battery consumption. The chip will initially be used in Nokia phones, but eventually I am sure will find way into other handsets as well.
