VoIP fad is spreading across the pond as well, as seen with the launch of Voipfone. It has the usual features including hosted PBX services for businesses. Standout feature however is the ability to send SMS text messages from user’s web based control panel, which also includes the ability to send multiple messages to a group of users. In other words this is a feature primed to be abused by spammers and other nefarious people. Link to their website.
I thought that sending SMS from a web browser is offered by many others for free. In any event what this has got to do with VoIP? Just to beef up the list of features?
It is possible to send SMS for free from the web, but I noticed that those services were becoming less and less reliable. Sometimes the message would not arrive, and of course, if youÄôre trying to contact someone for something important, this might be an issue.
I agree. but this seems to be another feature as a lure for new cusotmers. i have not talked to the company, but in the plain vanilla same old offerings, my jaded eyes could only see as the differentiating factor.
Hi, guys in response to your comments our bulk sms service is restricted to our Voipfone 2000 Business users only http://www.voipfone.co.uk/Voipfone_2000_Business.php and we do have an extremely strict anti spam policy and we will not tolerate spam in any form.
You are right in saying that sms has nothing to do with voip (at the moment) (sip enabled mobile numbers and virtual mobile numbers available soon) but Voipfone is not just a voip provider we aim to provide home and business customers with a one stop communication shop for voip, sms, fax, email, mms and so on with many additional features to be implemented before the end of this year
You are also correct in saying that web to sms is nothing new and many web sites offer this service FREE but why?
In most cases these sites are just another way of collating users personal details and mobile phone numbers so that the information can be sold off ever wondered why you get so many spam SMS’s ? And in some extreme cases they are just collating data and the alleged FREE sms is never actually sent.
We pride our selves on quality of service and we have had a phenomenal response to our latest products and features. And donÄôt forget any one can sign up and try our services totally FREE of charge
