  1. Guys, I love GigaOM, but fail to understand how you can have an RSS feed asking for a survey participation even when your survey system is down (as it currently is). But no worries, I will revisit this link later. And BTW, you guys do a good job with. Keep it up !

  2. I came to the site to fill up the survey from my RSS reader. I normally don’t fill up surveys but I wanted to do this because i like GigaOM. Then I saw the prizes. Then I saw that you are shipping only to canada and india. That made me a bit mad and I lost all my enthusiasm for filling up the survey. This is the classic example of how an incentive can backfire on you. If you care about only US and Canada readers, then it is the right strategy but otherwise it is a turn off for other visitors.

I think I will still fill up the survey but I don’t like how you have differentiated your readers. I would have understood if this was a smaller blog(like daring fireball) but for something of GigaOm’s size you shouldn’t skimp on international shipping!

  3. >>U.S. and Canada addresses only for shipping of iPod winners.

Similar to Manu I came to fill up survey but decided not to. When you don’t care about me in UK why should I care about you?

  4. I too could have filled it if there was no prize at all becuase I care about Gigaom; however differentiating among reader demotivated me not to do so. Good luck with your US and Canada readers.

  5. I filled the survey out, but am not driven by greed. I don’t live in the US or Canada, but if I win an iPod, I’ll just ask you to ship it to one of my friends in the US or Canada and they can have it.

If probably took you guys above longer to write a comment complaining as it did for me to fill out the survey…

    1. You don’t get it.

It is not that we want a shuffle. It is the principle of treating everyone equally when you can afford to do so. Do you think GigaOm can’t afford international shipping?

I did fill out the survey but if others didn’t it is perfectly understandable.

      1. Manu

Thanks for the survey and helping us out. I am sorry to have offended you and perhaps you can understand our predicament. It is not that I love my international readers less than our North American readers.

Hopefully you will come back often enough and who knows I will get a chance to meet you in person in India, sit down with you for a cup of tea and have a conversation.

  6. Guys

I am sorry if you feel offended about the international shipping. It is not that we can’t afford the shipping, but in the past any such attempts have caused problems. A few times packages have gone missing and what not. As a result, we can’t really ensure the delivery of the goods.

If you have been kind enough to fill out the survey, thank you so much. If you have some suggestions for us, we are open to them. I want to make sure that in the future we can address this question before going live on the blog.

    1. Om,

How about some sort of etailer gift card (Apple / Amazon / country specific) or equivalent $ in a paypal (or other online payment method)that could be used by your out of states readers. Like was said by the other readers in the thred it is the thought that counts.

      Thanks

Also some initial feedback enough with Stacy’s rants/comments on bandwidth caps (it is getting old)

  7. Great, you want us to take a survey that is closed less than 24 hours….Well, in the for-what-its-worth department, I really love sitting with my morning tea reading Salon and the first place I start reading is Gigaom….its my favorite and I have passed along many an item to colleagues. I don’t miss one day as it is a major part of my morning routine as I start my day. Keep up the good work.
