Crown Castle’s (DVB)Mobile Video on Handset division is now called Modeo, which is expected to go live later this year in about 30 US markets. DVB handsets from LG and Samsung are already making waves, and we could soon see new handsets from Nokia.
Modeo plans to launch the service commercially during 2006 in select major U.S. markets, including New York City. Modeo is currently working on a nationwide deployment of its network to the top 30 U.S. markets, with launches targeted throughout 2007.
Modeo will compete with Qualcomm’s MediaFLO which is getting some love from CDMA usual suspects, Sprint and Verizon Wireless. I think this is an opportunity for entreprenuers.
Any word on an actual launch date for MediaFLO? When last I heard they were still waiting to get the spectrum cleared. Also, I thought Verizon was more keen on going it alone rather than using either of these networks?
