I’ve written a piece (as a guestblogger) on why we really do need a webos after all, and why they are so many of them out there here, http://usecases.brmsblog.com/2007/01/08/you-gotta-eat-man , and I dont think it will matter if Google do release one or not, we will see more of these in the future regardless, because they do have their own reasons to exists after all.
They function as testing grounds for the development of complex serverside frameworks meant for useage elsewhere, namely as intranets for business.
